Windows 10 0x85050013 error sending via SMTP

After upgrading to Windows 10 you may get an error sending Email via SMTP either from the inbuilt app or outlook.

In the case of outlook the test connection button works but real emails fail.

It does not affect all ISPs, for me failed but was OK.

The solution is :-

Right click start button
Select Command Prompt (Administrator)
Type sfc /scannow and let it complete
Reboot your PC

Windows preview, reapplying new build after previously regressing from it.

If you have problems with a build of windows technical insider preview you can easily go back to the previous build.

But having done this, how to you re-apply the new build once you have sorted the problem and you are ready to try the new one again. The version you have regressed from will not reappear in “update & security”.

You can rebuild from scratch from an ISO or course, but what if you want to keep any old style apps and settings.

The answer is :-

Look at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability\RecoveredFrom in there is a dword value of the version you have regressed from, simply delete or rename it reboot and off you go.

New Sysinternals tool – Sysmon

Sysmon is a new tool from Sysinternals that should help to track down malware on home and corporate systems, I can think of several occasions when it would of saved time for me in both business and home malware detection and removal.

System Monitor (Sysmon) is a Windows system service and device driver that, once installed on a system, remains resident across system reboots to monitor and log system activity to the Windows event log.
